Picture Canyon Natural and Cultural Preserve is crossed by 1.5 miles of the Arizona Trail, a segment constructed in 2007. The main path though is the Tom Moody Trail, a 2.9 mile loop, alongside the stream and through less interesting, wooded terrain to the northwest.. Inside the canyon are over 12 miles of hiking trails, restroom and picnic facilities and the opportunity to ride and bike. Highlights include Ogam-like petroglyphs, homesteads, Crack Cave equinox site, Arch Rock, as well as several springs.

Picture Canyon, once a well-kept secret known to only a few in Flagstaff, was dedicated as a National Historic Site on April 29, 2008. Because it has been in the local newspaper and on local TV news, I think it is time to announce this archaeological gem to HAZ. Picture Canyon is technically inside Flagstaff city limits, but it is a part of state trust land. Despite its location near cinder.. The canyon also became a dumping ground by locals for cars, mattresses, and other garbage. For many years the petroglyphs and other archaeological sites in Picture Canyon were a little-known secret.
