Q: Wellbutrin?
I take adderall (10mg a day) and I have side effects of getting upset when I wake up and at the end of the day like door slamming and swaring and just that crapy feeling when the process is done for the day. And I asked about a medicine to counteract those effects on Yahoo Answers and someone said he takes adderall and Wellbutrin to counteract the mood swings. But on the Wellbutrin Web site it says that Wellbutrin is approved for those over 18. Is their a medicine like Wellbutrin that is for a 13 year old that I can talk to my doctor about?

A: I take Wellbutrin and I think it is a miracle drug. MUCH better than the other SSRI’s I’ve been on. I do know a 15 year old boy on Wellbutrin – it’s related more to weight than anything else, and they can give you a lower does. Talk to your doctor, and good luck!

I have a boyfriend that is taking wellbutrin. He has been having problems with holding an errection and getting an orgasim. Is this normal?

A: Regarding the STUPID answers that have been posted: You should NEVER come off a medication without consulting with you doctor FIRST! Wellbutrin can cause sexual side effects, like most other SSRI antidepressants. Contact the doctor, advise him/her of what is happening so the proper adjustments can be made. You may suggest LEXAPRO, it often time has the least amount of sexual side effects.

Q: How does Wellbutrin work to negatively effect memory?
Wellbutrin can cause memory problems. How does it do this?
If you do a web search on wellbutrin and memory you will see that lots of people have experienced memory problems when they started using wellbutrin, and it is also listed as a side effect.

A: There’s no info about memory problems in the PI sheet or any of the research done on this medication, no case studies either. In fact it usually tends to be a bit of a cognitive perk, because it shares minor similarities with other stimulating meds like Ritalin and Adderall (though this is minor).

While an antidepressant drug can do many odd things in the brain, there’s no clear mechanism or Wellbutrin to do this – it’s simply operating in the wrong areas. Memory problems are a symptom of depression however, and it’s possible that a severely depressed person could not have this be alleviated by the medication. Combine with Wellbutrin’s perk-you-up potential and it might make a person more aware of it, but I can’t see this being a direct cause of this medication in and of itself.

Q: what is the difference between wellbutrin xl and wellbutrin sr?
I had been taking wellbutrin xl 150 mg and it did wonders. I do not have insurance now and am looking to buy wellbutrin online. SR is cheaper. If I get wellbutrin sr 150 how much of a difference is that than taking xl.

A: The SR version is sustained-release: twice a day. The XL is more so: once a day. I’d expect the XL tabs to have a longer-lasting effect.

Q: How long will my Wellbutrin withdrawal symptoms last?
I’ve been on 75mg of Wellbutrin (Bupropion) for about 8 months. I understand this is the lowest dose that is usually prescribed. Anyway, I’m trying to withdraw by taking half a pill (37.5mg) each day instead, but I have this headache and flue like symptoms. It’s been 1 day so far. Any idea how long this will last and if my tapering schedule is reasonable?

A: Are you taking Wellbutrin XR (extended release) b/c those you aren’t suppose to cut. Tapering off Wellbutrin isn’t as necessary as an SSRI. I was on 450 milligrams and I just tapered by 150 and when I hit 150 I stopped. I’m guessing your symptoms aren’t related to your tapering.

Q: People on Wellbutrin SR: How many hours do you usually wait to take your second pill?

I know technically, (according to the pharmacist’s sheet and things like that) you are supposed to space your Wellbutrin SR at least eight hours apart to avoid risk of seizure. However, the risk of seizure on Wellbutrin is very low. Does anyone here take their second pill less than eight hours from their first for instance, six hours later?

I don’t always remember to take my first pill until noon sometimes, but that puts my second pill at 8:00pm which can make it hard to sleep later on.

So, is it ok to take it six hours later sometimes or will I be dancing with death unless I wait the full eight hours?
David S- I’m glad Lexapro works better for YOU. Wellbutrin works wonders for ME. Don’t assume that Wellbutrin is the first kind of antidepressant I’ve ever taken.

Q: How does Wellbutrin effect your sexual desire after you stop taking it?
Ok, so I took Wellbutrin XL 300mg/day for about a year. Before this time I was sexually active with one person and had sex about 6 times a week. After I started taking it increased slightly to about 8 or 9 times a week purely because my sexual desire was heightened. Well at the end of a year I thought it was time to go off Wellbutrin. For about 2 weeks it was the same. Then all of a sudden I didnt care about it anymore. My body didnt react or feel the need to have sex. I thought it was just take time but its been almost 6 months and it seems to just be getting worse. Still with the same wonderful partner. Nothing else has changed. I wish I could press charges lol. If anyone knows anything let me know!!

A: You body may need time to get back to before u started taking it. i Know it been 6 months, but give it some more time, and I know it hard not to worry but try not to worry about it. Good luck

What is the difference between Wellbutrin XL and SR? Can both be used to treat the same things? I have also read that Wellbutrin at 400 mg can be used to treat obesity. Does this apply to both Wellbutrin XL and SR?

A: Wellbutrin SR and XL are fundamentally the same medication used for the same purposes. What’s different is the pill’s composure because SR breaks down and is absorbed more quickly, so you need to take it twice a day. The XL variation is made to be even longer extended release so you only need to take it once a day.

Q: has anyone taking wellbutrin felt the constant urge to urinate?
I have been on wellbutrin about 2 months. In the last month I have felt the urge to urinate a lot, but can get very little out. It has been getting worse, in the last few days. I have been checked for a uti infection but I am clear. I have found a few things online that list this as a side effect. Anyone else ever experience this?

A: My boyfriend and I both take it and no, it doesn’t have that effect on either of us.

Q: How long does it take a prescription like Wellbutrin to start working?
I’ve recently started taking Wellbutrin and have been on it now for about 3 weeks. I actually think its making my depression worse. I am quieater, dont talk to people very much, lose my patience and cry more now than before. This was supposed to help me! My friends have noticed that I’m not acting like myself lately. I dont think its the dosage. Does it matter what time you take it at?

A: Most antidepressants take 6-8 weeks to completely kick in. Depending on what kind of Wellbutrin you’re taking, SR or XL, the time of day does matter. If you only have to take Wellbutrin SR once a day, take it in the morning. If you are taking Wellbutrin XL, I would take it in the morning, if it doesn’t make you too drowsy. But I don’t think it makes that big of a difference.
If it doesn’t work in the next few weeks, go back to your doctor. Some antidepressants don’t work for some people. There are so many different ones and there may be a medication that works better.

Q: What’s the difference between wellbutrin and alpenzin?
Aplenzin is new and i cant find much info on it. Do you believe it would be as effective as wellbutrin? or more so? Will i have to take fewer doses than with wellbutrin?
also is there a generic alpenzin?
also how much more exp will alpenzin be? i pay $10 for a generic bottle of 300mg bupropion

A: Alpenzin is bupropion HBr and Wellbutrin is bupropion HCl. Alpenzin is dosed once a day just like Wellbutrin XL. Alpenzin is available in the following dosages: 174mg, 348mg and 522mg extended release tablets. There is no generic available and the cost will be whatever you pay for Brand Name medications. As far as effectiveness is concerned, they should be similar.

Q: What do you know about adding Prozac to Wellbutrin regimen?
I have been taking Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. for a few months, and am in a new relationship (5 months). The WB has given me more energy, but I seem to be so anxious, and obsessed over my relationship, which is still going good, but has lost that zing–I think I am driving him nuts. I used to take Prozac, and it really shut up the “committe” in my head, but I didn’t like how hard I had to work to have an orgasm. I am alsdo in Aa recovery, and seeing a psychologist twice weekly. We are getting to the bottom of some of my childhood motives for current behavior (bottomless love-pit)….but I am crying all the time, worried about everything to do with this relationship. Unable to concentrate on important things. Thinking of asking to combine Prozac with Wellbutrin. Maybe the Prozac will help with the head-chatter, and the Wellbutrin may combat any sexual side effects. I want to be HAPPY and serene, and not drive off a really nice man. We are planning on moving in together soon.
I was anxious also in the beginning. I’d have to say that the Wellbutrin hasn’t changed me alot, like Prozac did in the past. I didn’t like the “flat” affect I had with P, though. At least I don’t feel like curling up in a ball and dying like I did before I started the W.

A: Avoid wellbutrin if you can. There are way too many side effects. Take either prozac or zoloft. Zoloft is the best but you have to take enough. They have found that the old advice of “max 200 mg” is false. Some people are fine with 200 or more. Don’t worry about orgasms. It sounds like not getting off is the least of your problems.

Q: How concerned about seizures should I be on Wellbutrin if no history of them?
I started taking 150mg of Wellbutrin 5 days ago and will increase to 300mg in a week and a half. I am concerned about that side effect, how common is it at the above dose? Please don’t cut and past from web, I can do that, medical professionals or personal experience please.

A: I’ve seen a lot of patients who take this drug and have never seen a Wellbutrin induced seizure. I know it is listed as one of the side effects, but it would seem to me to be very rare. Typically with this class of drugs, seizure side effects occur most commonly with a sudden stopage of use. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, unless you start having a lot of adverse side effects. Then talk to your MD about changing to something else.

Q: I think I suffer from cyclothymia. How effective is Wellbutrin in suppressing the depressive phases?
How effective is Wellbutrin in controlling my depressive mood and the low self-esteem that comes with it? Are there any natural remedies? Is chewing coca leaves effective? Thanks.

A: Hello,
Before taking anything, get a clear diagnoses.
Welbutrin also causes seizures in those who have them or are predisposed to them. Some people do not even know they have seizures until they take such a drug…..read the side effects of every drug put into your body.

Q: Will Using Wellbutrin deter my ability to use hormones?
I just thought of this. I take wellbutrin and I worry that it might be effected by hormones. I know that people aren’t doctors here, but those with experience, is the drug wellbutrin known to have negative effects with hormone therapy?

A: Wellbutrin is a terrible drug in my opinion. Sorry.. I know many people who took wellbutrin and went nuts! I’ve seen people have panic attacks and turn to zombies on this drug. Wellbutrin is not good with any other kinds of drugs/medications. It counter reacts with almost everything. Obviously you know this but drinking/smoking/doing drugs on wellbutrin will make you psychotic. I would honestly get off this drug I’m sorry as a caring person I just think its poison. My opinion.
