Q: What are the serve depression symptoms? I wonder If I have it?
i feel tired and down quite alot
even when i find something funny – i cant laugh
I cant seem to be happy
i am depressed..ah..what now
but my mum doesnt like or care about my aspergers . depression or anything:(
A: If you are depressed you often lose interest in things that you used to enjoy. Depression commonly interferes with your work, social and family life. In addition, there are many other symptoms, which can be physical, psychological, and social.
Psychological symptoms:
continuous low / blue mood or sadness; feelings of hopelessness and helplessness; low self-esteem; tearfulness;feelings of guilt;feeling irritable and intolerance of others; lack of motivation, and little interest in and difficulty making decisions;lack of enjoyment;suicidal thoughts / thoughts of harming someone else;feeling anxious or worried; reduced sex drive. Physical symptoms:
slowed movement / speech;change in appetite / weight (usually decreased but sometimes increased); constipation;unexplained aches and pains;lack of energy / lack of interest in sex; andchanges to the menstrual cycle (in women).Social symptoms:
not performing well at work;taking part in fewer social activities and avoiding contact with friends; reduced hobbies and interests, and difficulties in home and family life.
Q: Can lack of sleep worsen chronic depression/ADD symptoms?
I know, I don’t need a huge speech on how I’m irrisponsible and everything. But due to my current schedule I get from between 4-6 hours of sleep a night. My body’s adjusted to this abnormality pretty well, I’ve been doing it since 6th grade (Freshman now) but I’m thinking maybe the lack of sleep is affecting my mental status. Got any ideas?
A: Yes lack of sleep does affect mental status. Because when you don’t sleep, you’re wide awake and thinking about all kinds of things, which yes will make depression worse, especially if you have chronic depression and on top of that, ADD. Try to get at least 8-10 hours sleep a night….you’ll see a HUGE change.
Q: How do you treat depression, by examining/eliminating the cause or treating the symptoms?
I think depression is an irrational feeling and if you find the cause you can usually drag it into the light of day and see that its not worth the suffering BUT if finding that cause is difficult is it better to find a way to soothe the symptoms seeing as the cause is irrational anyway?
Is it worth the effort to find the cause?
OR should you just let them walk it off for a few days with no help at all?
A: It is always best to treat the cause of any illness rather than just the symptoms & depression is no different. Many fear looking within because they believe they will find a monster in the closet. Yet, if one can find the courage & clarity, if self judgment can be released, the rewards are a degree of true self knowledge & freedom not experienced previously.
As far as helping another, it is a process all must do for themselves when ready. You can lead a horse to water but you can not force it to drink. If another is willing that is the magic ingredient that will make the way clear for them. If they are unwilling nothing anyone does or says will make it happen.
Blessings!
Q: Patients who suffer from double depression have which of the following patterns of symptoms?
Patients who suffer from double depression have which of the following patterns of symptoms?
A.They have both bipolar disorder and unipolar depression at the same time.
B.They suffer from more than one episode of unipolar depression within a 12-month period.
C.They suffer from both bipolar I and bipolar II disorder at the same time.
D.They suffer from dysthymic disorder, which leads to a diagnosis of major depressive disorder.
A: Double Depression
Double depression is a condition in which someone experiences symptoms of minor depression (also known as dysthymia) and major depression together. Dysthymia is a long-term condition, marked by mild symptoms such as continued feelings of sadness, which may begin as early as childhood. When an episode of major depression is experienced, bringing with it more intense and severe symptoms along with dysthymia, double depression may be diagnosed. Although symptoms of dysthymia are “mild,” they are nonetheless serious as they take a long-term toll on self-worth and mental health. When experienced in combination with a bout of major depression, treatment is likely necessary.
Dysthymia
Dysthymia causes depression that usually lasts most of the day and occurs every day. Dysthymia can only be diagnosed if the depression is experienced for the better part of two years, although the diagnosis in children and adolescents only requires one year of symptoms. Within this period of time, depression-free episodes cannot last longer than two months.
The following symptoms are associated with dysthymia, although only two symptoms must be present for a diagnosis to be made: changes in appetite often accompanied by weight gain or weight loss, changes in sleep patterns causing insomnia or excessive sleep, fatigue, feelings of hopelessness, low self-esteem, and difficulty concentrating or making decisions.
Major Depression
Major depression, which is also known as unipolar or clinical depression, is characterized by severe episodes of depression that are not chronic in nature as in dysthymia. Five or more symptoms of depression must be reported for at least two weeks for a diagnosis to be made.
The symptoms of major depression are irritability or restlessness; insomnia or excessive sleep; dramatic changes in appetite that can be accompanied by changes in weight; difficulty concentrating; lack of energy; hopelessness or helplessness; self-hate, worthlessness or feeling guilty for no reason; an inability to feel pleasure in activities that were once enjoyed or a loss of interest in such activities and thoughts of death or suicide.
Q: depression symptoms??
I want to know what some depression symptoms are like…and how i can treat it..i came to the conclusion i might be under depression, but i want to make sure….i often cry a lot for everything, I’m by myself all day my mom and brother are at work, and i don’t get to go out that much and by the way I’m only 16…so this worries, and I often feel ALONE
A: Alot of people when they’re depressed don’t feel like doing anything… they stop doing activities that they used to like because they don’t find pleasure in them anymore. Sometimes you can lose your appetite all together or you can binge eat. Depression can also cause insomnia or the reverse where you always feel like you want to sleep. It can also make you feel worthless and meaningless, and you can’t find any joy in life. If any of this sounds like you then you may really be depressed. Try and think of what could be causing it. If it’s that you feel alone all the time, maybe you should think of joining some type of team or group like a sports team, drama club, whatever you’re interested in so that you meet new people and have an extracuricular activity outside of school and home.

Q: Depression symptoms?
What are the signs/symptoms of depression, and what do I do if I know I have them, but can’t go to a therapist or anything??
A: This is an odd question for this category! You are sad and moody, you don’t find anything to be amusing, if you feel like this you have a problem. If you are a student, see your councillor, if not, talk to a close, understanding friend or to your parents, if you have a religious persuasion, talk to your parson, you have to seek help of some form. Good luck, cheer up, life is good, it’s up to you to make it good.

My parents are really overprotective and my dad has depression, how do I tell them that I need help without making things worse?
A: ONE THING? do you know the cause? that has a huge effect on everything.
Depression is often Genetic. It’s not your fault. Seriously, it’s not your fault.
It runs in my family and reading down your list I checked each imaginary box next to each statement. (minus drugs and alcohol)
I’m very depressed, but i know i won’t kill myself. If though sometime i wish i would. But for me I would get exponentially more depressed if i told my parents.
If you feel you need their help, you need to find a way to tell them. A note may be the least confrontational way. But just mentioning it to one or the other would also serve the purpose. It’s also an option to talk to a school councilor.
If you find you can’t bring yourself to tell them, buy a self help book. They actually do work. It’s a start anyway.
But please listen to this next part with an open mind.
IF you want to Change. you need to know it doesn’t just happen.
You have to decide to fight being depressed. And you have to decide to NEVER stop fighting. Not even for a moment. Because the fact that you are fighting IS the Change.
read that two or three times. please. it really has some depth to it.

Q: Depression (symptoms)?
Hi, my name is Jade and I’m fifteen. I think I have depression… To be honest, I hope so: it’d mean there is a way out to being sad… That being said, could you please tell me how to know? I’m going to see a psychologist soon but my mother is trying to find a good one…
Thanks for your help
A: Hi, Jade;
If you’re clinically depressed, the best bet is seeing a psychiatrist (not a psychologist) for a proper diagnostic and treatment. If for some reason that’s not an option or if you cannot afford therapy, read http://tiny.cc/wmis4/
In many cases depression will respond quickly to the use of this treatments (within a few weeks), but if this still doesn’t work, see a psychiatrist; psychiatric treatment for depression involves antidepressants and usually but not always, therapy.
Hope this helps.
Q: Depression Symptoms?
As long as I can remember, probably since I was 12 (now 27), I have had this uncontrollable feeling that I need to go somewhere, I need to leave. I was born and currently still live in St Louis. The feeling is as if everybody else are all somewhere having a really great time and I’m missing it. As if I’m supposed to be somewhere but I don’t know where I’m supposed to be. I lived in Oxford, England for 8 months and had a bf while I was there. That was the only time I didnt feel that feeling but I usually whenever I have someone I like or I’m seeing I’ve noticed the feeling goes away for a bit but returns as soon as the first sign of it not working out with the person. I haven’t lived anywhere else but St Louis and Oxford but when I think of moving somewhere else I really cant imagine the feeling going away. I have a history with depression and sometimes I think moving would make it better but everyone says it’ll just follow me but the feeling sits on my shoulders and idk what to do?
Even though it’s been 4 1/2 years since I had to leave my exbf behind in the Oxford and come back to the states, I’ve found not a day goes by I don’t think of how to get back there to be happy again bc it’s the only place i know i was really happy so i can escape the feeling. But he won’t speak to me and wants nothing to do with me as he has had new gfs since me. For some reason my mind hangs on to that time in England bc it’s the only place I know of that I was happy and free from this horrible feeling. Does anybody know what it is and why I always have it?
A councelor/doctor diagnosed me as Major Depression when I was a senior in university but I had just left my exbf in UK and came back to my boring life in St Louis so I wonder if it’s truly depression i’ve had since i was 12 or just going insane from boredom? maybe i’m just in need of a different city with more of a challenge since i know this one so well? plz help.
A: I have been reading some books by Joyce Meyer. I think they would really help you. My favorites are, “In Pursuit of Peace” and “Battlefield of the Mind.” She has a women’s convention in St. Louis also that I am thinking about attending. It is supposed to be wonderful! I would also recommend seeing a doctor, there may be a medication you can take that would help. I know some people that take Wellbutrin and say that it helps. There are a lot of medications for depression, you just have to find the right one for you.

Q: Depression symptoms?
Whats wrong with me? For the last month or so now i have felt tired, ugly, lonely when im not, angry at the slightest things and today i started to self harm. Im not doing it for attention.
One day ill be so happy, full off live and funny and the next im quiet and all of the above. Am i depressed?
Serious answers please ♥
I told one of my friends a few days ago that i think i might be depressed but she just laughed because that day i was full of life.
A: You sound just like me. And yes I have depression. You need to seek help, it will only get worse. I know you’re not doing it for attention, but don’t be surprised if others think you are. Talk to your regular doctor and see what they recommend as your best remedy.
Q: depression symptoms?
i feel like holding in my stomach muscles all the time. Is this s ymptom and what can i do?
anxiety then
A: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an illness that causes people to have unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and to repeat certain behaviors (compulsions) over and over again. We all have habits and routines in our daily lives, such as brushing our teeth before bed. However, for people with OCD, patterns of behavior get in the way of their daily lives.
Most people with OCD know that their obsessions and compulsions make no sense, but they can’t ignore or stop them.

People who have OCD also may have depression.
