Q: Where is the best free place to start an online forum dealing with depression and other mood disorders?
So many are suffering with depression and other mood disorders that cause self mutilation in the form of cutting upon flesh, eating disorders and suicide.
I presently have an online diary located at http://www.freeopendiary.com/entrylist.asp?authorcode=D636850 but I’d like to find some way to set readers up so they can network together for support and advice.
Any ideas?
A: Well the guy with skullcross bones might not appreciate it, but I think its great that you are willing to reach out and work with other people. Social support groups work wonders whn dealing with depression. Just remember that nothing can compltely replace a doctor’s care.
Yahoo groups (access from yahoo.com) makes it easy to start and maintain a group. You might look and see if there is group that already exists that fits the bill…if not start one up!
Best of luck!

Q: any1 know of good chat rooms / forum for dealing with depression ?

please dont tell me to google it ! thanks
In the UK, thanks
A: Hi Lucy. I don’t know bout chat rooms, but I suffer with depression too. When it gets me, I try to make, like, commitments outside the house, like, going to the gym with somebody or even on my own, or just doing things. I joined an art class, and a writing class, just for things to do outside the house. Because even though it doesn’t really get rid of the depression, it gives me other things to think about besides what I’m depressed about. In my communiity, there is an organization called “MIND” and they have open drop in centers. Maybe you could find that where you are, they are terrific, free, and there are lots of others there who suffer like we do and would understand. That is where I get the classes. Just getting out of the house for a while can give you a different perspective, something to live for. Oh, and I pray a lot too. You can contact me @yahoo.com (my name). Good luck, hope you feel better. Oh, and the only trouble with chatrooms, is that it doesn’t get you out of your surroundings. So easy just to fall right back into the depression again. So as I tell myself, “get out of the house!!” x

Q: where can I find an active forum or community for people with depression?
serious answers only, please.
A: Here is one:
http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Depression/support-group
Good luck. Depression is often related to stuffing anger that you don’t feel you have a right to. Finding suitable ways to release anger can help a lot in releasing depression. If you post on this site and find yourself saying, wow, I didn’t realize I was so angry about that, then you are unpeeling the layers of your depression. It is good to acknowledge when that has happened so that you can continue moving forward. Try not to become “addicted” to depression. Counter balance the depression forums and information gathering with forcing yourself to participate in something productive, like theater, joining a choir, learning to play chess – something where you are participating with others, learning, stretching your mind, thinking about something other than depression, without being stressed to socialize too much (just enough to participate, but not feeling like you have to make friends with everyone). Good luck.
