Q: Anxiety treatment?
I suffer from anxiety caused by stress at work. Actually I developed it a couple of years ago and it recently came back full force after a career change. It’s affecting my blood pressure I can tell, because I feel most of the time like I’m in a heightened anxiety state (tightened chest) on the verge of an attack, whether I’m at work or not.
I’ve read about beta blockers being used for anxiety but when I asked a question about them last night people said that’s not what I should talk to my MD about. Other people said it is. I’m confused. What’s the best treatment for an anxiety disorder like this?
Actually I can tell my blood pressure is affected because I can no longer drink coffee or soda without getting dizzy and sometimes getting blurry vision. I’m calling to make an appointment with my MD today- I just want to know what to talk to him about and what suggestions I can make that he might not think of.
A: All anti-depressants work different for different people. Someone said don’t use Effexor however, it is one of the better ones. I only stopped it because of weight gain. I have had anxiety for years and depression I have taken Xanax for years and yes I know they are addicting but I use them as prescribed and they keep me where I need to be mentally, I have used several anti-depressants. I have been on Wellbutrin for quite awhile now and it balances me quite well. Therapy also helps. Talk to your Dr. about your symptoms and get some help.
Q: anxiety treatment?
I have been suffering from panic attacks for the past couple months up until now I have been trying to deal w/ them naturally without medical intervention(I am terrified of dr’s, I have had several bad experiences). At this point I am to the point that I feel like I have to see a psychologist, what I am wondering is what goes on at the initial appt., is there a huge medical exam and lots of tests performed or is it mainly discussing what is going on. with me.
A: I know EXACTLY how you feel, it sucks major ass. I hate doctors too ><
well for me, I have a method that always seems to work for me whenever I’m having a panic attack, which happens many many times a month. First of all, if you have an ipod, put some Beethoven/Yanni on it. if you don’t know who Yanni is, which most people don’t, then download his music, it’s really really relaxing, and whenever you have a panic attack just listen to either one of them. along with that, whenever your freaking out, take a deep breath, do that 100 times. yeah I know it seems like a lot, and whenever I have panic attacks, I cry A LOT. so it’s hard to take deep breaths and concentrate. so just try your hardest, they don’t have to be DEEP breaths, just enough for you to notice it. yeah 100 seems like a lot, but it’s very much worth it. and just sit somewhere away from people, avoid people, no matter how much they try and make you feel better just get 10 minutes of alone time to calm down. these methods ALWAYS work for me, hopefully they can help you too, I hate panic attacks, I hate anxiety, but I’ve found ways to make it better. =]
if you need any more advice, feel free to add me

Q: What is the best treatment for anxiety/depression?
I am almost 18 years old and a month ago I developed some sort of anxiety disorder out of nowhere. I was previously about as mentally healthy as one can be. What is the best treatment option? I don’t want to go on pills but sometimes it is just unbearable and its ruining my life. Has anyone heard about The Linden Method? His website makes some big claims, and his fans on facebook seem to confirm them. Any help would be great.
A: A couple of quick things that might help you get over your depression.
If you’re in school, which I assume you are based on your age, see if your school as an assistance program.
If you have insurance that covers therapy (check with your insurance provider), try to see a therapist (do a web search for therapist + your city name) or look at doing online counseling sessions (you can find some online therapists at http://breakthrough.com).
Look at doing more exercise. Numerous studies have shown that exercise can be extremely effective in alleviating depression symptoms.
Q: what is a good anxiety treatment?
i have recently been having anxiety attacks, i don’t want a doctor to give me pills that pollute my body. is there any all natural remedies? and don’t say pot!
A: What ever you do stay away from anti anxiety medication such as Xanax and Ativan they are high addictive. Some treatments include talk therapy, yoga, and lifting weights. There are numerous breathing techniques that were developed to cope with anxiety. It could be an chemical in balance where medications can help yet still do not use the benzo meds they are not worth their highly addictive chemical make up. Good luck.
Q: Is talk therapy really effective in the treatment of anxiety or are meds more effective?
A friend & I are debating. I say chatty people with anxiety tend to talk circles around talk therapy & thus meds are more effective; and that talk therapy has the better track record for short term depression. My friend contends that talk therapy with or without a combo of meds is the most effective treatment for both depression and anxiety, short or long term for either.
A: This is a very difficult answer to anyone to try to provide. In short, the drugs alone are rarely the answer. I am not some prohibishionist trying to argue against the value of drugs…certainly they have value. However, when treatment for anxiety is nothing more than meds, it is very unlikely to actually solve the problem. Best case scenario, the patient might find a system that works for them as to when they had them. Perhaps during these times that they are on the meds they feel better. But what about when they aren’t taking them? And how often are they taking them? Do they want to take them more often? Do they want to up the dose? Without resorting to scare tactics, these mind medicines are powerful and to give everyone wtih anxiety a bottle of pills and one sheet of paper probably isn’t going to really help them much. It would very well hurt them.
With therapy, you have a professional who can analyze your situation and try to get to the bottom of it. Why are you anxious? How anxious are you? How often do you experience anxiety? Are there things you could try to deal with these issues without meds? The therapist will have some techniques that you may find very helpful. In not, the therapist can work with a doctor to prescribe something for your anxiety. But that still won’t be the answer to all of your problems.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the best forms of treatment often combine both medication and therapy.
Q: I need advice, please. What is best Neurology or psychiatry for social anxiety treatment?
I made an appointment in a local clinical for psychiatry but the lady said neurology also treat these cases. I don’t know what to chose? Do you have any idea? They would be greatly appreciated.
A: I had that, CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy) is the therapy for that particular problem. I’d reasearch all you symtoms before you go though and have a clear idea on what you have because they just take a wild guess and perscribe a medication.
Right now i take Zoloft at 1 and 1/2 pills of 50mgs ( made for Anxiety, and doesn’t react to anything really), which has basicaly saved my social life. i used to spend 5 mins in class thinking about wether or not i should go up and sharpen my pencil, because i feared that anxiety rush so much. i rarely spoke and if i did i would most likely slur a few sentences, everybody thought i was some kind of creep because of it, it sucked. but know i basicaly do whatever i want no problem not even the thought about questioning it either. i look at people that i can tell are nervous and just think why are they nervous their isn’t even a crowd. but i know how hard it is so i don’t take anything against them.
Q: Driving games for the treatment of driving anxiety?
I am a psychologist specializing in the treatment of anxiety disorders. I would like to use driving games in the treatment of driving anxious patients. To do that well, I would like a game with free driving through different environments (city, highway, mountain, etc.), and ability to predetermine different conditions: lighting and weather conditions and traffic density. Do you know any game that might fulfill all or some of these requirements?
A: Most all of the games on the market today have something of these types of programming. (Sony, X-box, Nintendo, etc) The best thing for you to do is to go into a store that sells these different game systems and just look at the discriptions of the different games and select one that you think is appropriate. Your idea sounds great. I hope it works for your patients.
Q: What is the best treatment for Anxiety?
What is the best treatment for anxiety and panic? Do you think its medicine or just therapy? Learning how to deal with it without medication?
A: In studies, a combination of medication and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) show the best results for anxiety, depression, and other disorders. However, CBT on its own has shown extremely good results with a very high remission rate for anxiety disorders. If you don’t want to go on medication, find a really good psychologist that specializes in cognitive behavioural therapy for anxiety disorders. It may take longer than medication, but therapy tends to show permanent results, whereas medication alone does not.
Q: how does social anxiety treatment work?
If any one out there has been treated for this disorder can you please fill me up on the treatment. I believe I have this disorder and will seek help to overcome it since its really interfering with my life. What was the cost? and also did any one try Cognitive Behavioral Therapy? Please let me know how you been doing.
A: Yes, I tried Cognitive Behavior Therapy and it DOES work. I am not completely over my anxiety, but the negative thoughts that consumed my mind have dimished. I think more postively now. I am in therapy at my school now and I wanna try group therapy soon. If you are in college then I highly suggest you look up info about their counseling center and go in and make an appointment. The therapy costs are included into my tuition, so I don’t pay anything! As for the Cognitive Therapy, I did that all on my own. I listened to a 20 step audio series by a gur named Dr. Richards. He had anxiety for 20 years, so he knows what he is talking about. Look up ‘Overcoming Social Anxiety Step-by-Step’ on www.demonoid.com. Download it and notice that it comes with a workbook too that you will need to read DAILY! That is very important! Good luck to you
Edit: I have never taken meds and I don’t plan to. In response to what the girl above me said, CBT is effective if you do it right and don’t give up! You WILL see results.
Q: What is the best treatment for anxiety, social anxiety? Need an urgent answer?
I suffer from social phobia/ anxiety. I dread leaving my house and even ordanrily mixing with people is stressful
I was formerly on zoloft and lagactl but I feel very insecure after taking lagactl so I’m off it.
I still feel I need extra to the zoloft( actually sertraline which is the generic name)
If you know of any superb treatments, pls let me have them , whether medication or therapy. I prefer medication though!
A: Aristotlelus,
I can relate to how you feel. I used to suffer from anxiety/agoraphobia.
I was thinking too much. I had anxiety attacks when I had to speak in public. Or when there would be more than a few people around me in the same room. It was something that started when I was a teenager and that lasted over years and subsequently affected my career until not so long ago. Looking back, I feel I should have taken action way earlier. But anyway, that’s the past.
At some point, I was prescribed medicine but I wanted to avoid that because of the side effects (just my point of view but you should think about it). That’s when I discovered a program that cured me. It is a 100% natural method. You can find it here:
http://www.stop-your-anxiety-now.com
The key of that technique is that you should no longer fear the thought of anxiety. You know what I mean? You are thinking too much. You have to get out of that loop.
Tackle the issue ASAP. You can get rid of it – others have, I have.
Good luck!
Q: What’s the best MEDICATION treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder?
Please don’t list any benzodiazapenes.
Please list medications only, and no miracle cures. Please don’t answer if you dont have social anxiety and have never undergone treatment; in other words, dont post what you read on a website. I’m looking for honest answers from personal experience. Please don’t mention any kinds of “therapy” (cognitive, group, etc.) I’m only interested in medications, preferrably those currently available in the US.
I know that everyone responds differently to medicine, but I’m basically just asking what (if anything) has worked for you.
A: I was on Effexor and it seemed to help a little, but I had major mood swings. I switched to Wellbutrin and that has helped my anxiety greatly. The side effects were minimal and easy to deal with. I’m also currently on Seroquel which helps put my mind at ease at night, that also works pretty well, but I’ve had some short term memory issues with that one. It’s nothing I can’t deal with so I keep taking it because it works.
Q: im going to see a doctor tomorrow for anxiety what treatment will i get/ pills if any?
ive had anxiety for quite for some time now but i never got treatment for it because ive been in navy bootcamp so i havent had time to get cheaked out
it gets bad some time where i have to stop because im breathing too hard
ive had anxiety before i was in the navy so it just hasnt just started.
A: Contrary to what others are saying here the doc probably wont give you xanax right away, it is a highly addictive drug and is only used as a last resort.
Chances are he will put you on an antidepressant. No worries though, its usually a very low dose. After about a month you will come in for a follow up and if the anti depressants didnt work then they will give you a drug like xanax!
Q: How does getting treatment for anxiety affect your military career?
I have been in the AF 8 years now and my anxiety is getting to the point where it is affecting my marriage and my ability as a parent. I love what I do and consider myself very good at what I do even with pretty bad anxiety issues. I do want to seek help and explore options to help me figure out how to deal with this ,but I am worried by seeking help it could affect my long term plans/ goals in the military. Does anyone have any experience with this?
A: Yes.
Through Military One Source you can seek Counseling where they will not ask for last names, rank, unit, etc. etc. Simply call and make an appointment. You can go and talk to them, see what treatment options you have.
The Military is very serious about assisting their Servicemembers with Mental Health issues.
Good Luck! And you should be very proud of yourself for admitting your anxiety issues and seeking help.
Q: What is the best comforting self treatment for anxiety without any drug use?
My mom was vomiting 3 days ago. When she vomits, the foods stuck up in her throats and in her nose, having her difficulty to breath. She cant really breath and then she get panic. Thank God we revive her and get her back to normal. But since then, her coughing makes it difficulty because her left side of the her body hurts everytime she cough. The last night she woke me up because her whole body is trembling. She told me she is not feeling good. She said, her heart is so heavy, that she cant understand what shes feeling. She wants to cry as much as she could. She said she wants to shout cause she feel hear heart is bursting. But she cant. Maybe she just miss my dad now that he’s gone. Do you think this is anxiety? If it is, whats the best comforting things i need to do to my mom without the help of drugs? Help pls!
A: This does not sound like anxiety alone, it sounds potentially medical. Get her to a doctor.
