Q: Has anyone ever taken Lexapro for a anxiety disorder? How does it make you feel?
I have been diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. The doctor wants me to try Lexapro and I don’t know if I want to. I worry all the time about little things, I never sleep and get sick to my stomach at the though t of having to fly.

A: Yes I have and Yes it worked…..Watch your weight with this type of medication..

Q: Is there any danger or excpected side effects to taking Lexapro and Xanax together?
I take Lexapro on a regular basis and took a Xanax for an acute episode of anxiety. Could this be harmful? Are there any side effects I should expect?

A: The two are fine together. If you are ever switched to prozac from Lexapro, you do not want to take Xanax.

Q: Is it normal to be scared to come off of Lexapro and Klonopin?
I’ve been on 10mg of Lexapro for a few months now and on 1mg of Klonopin for over a year. Plain and simple, I just don’t wanna be medicated anymore. I feel like crap and I hate being dependent on drugs that screw with your brain chemistry. I’ve decided to handle my depression and anxiety naturally with healthy eating and regularly working out. I’ve read horror stories about the withdrawal of both of these drugs and I am nervous. What is to be expected?

A: Yes, of course it’s normal.
I was on Zoloft for two years and I took myself off it because I hated feeling like I was living on this plateau. I was very scared, but I turned out fine.

I was never on those specific medications, so I’ll leave my answer there…

Q: What is your experience with Lexapro for anxiety?
I just got put on Lexapro and I wonder how it worked for others. I have severe anxiety and have been on 100mg of Zoloft without much improvement. Think this one will work better?

A: Zoloft is a SSRI, which means it works on the serotonin levels (or happy levels in your brain). SSRI’s are not usually prescribed for anxiety they are best used for depression. Lexapro is an SSNRI, which means it works on a separate receptor in your brain. This one controls depression and anxiety. SSNRI are used for anxiety disorder and depression as well as OCD symptoms. Therefore, do not worry if Zoloft was ineffective; The Lexapro should work great. The main side effects associated with it are dry mouth, decreased sexual desire, and sometimes some headaches. Other than that it works great and is the number one SSNRI taken by people.

Q: Does lexapro actually work for panic attacks?
I have just started to have really bad panic attacks and my doctor put me on lexapro. I have not taken it yet but I just want to ask if anyone knows if this drug really works for panic attacks or not?

A: All anti depressants affect everyone in a different way. I myself take lexapro for social anxiety. I describe it as “mild”, I’ve had several types of anti depressants and lexapro is the right one for me. It doesn’t take away all your anxiety, it doesn’t numb your emotions either, but for me it makes me feel like I’m right. I have a problem with blushing at every turn of the corner, and I would jump like I was scared if I DID turn the corner and someone was there lol. That went away. It helps me cope with the anxiety I have but does not take it all away. Give it about a month to a month and a half, it could really help you.

Q: What is a good medication for social anxiety to take with Lexapro?
Been on Lexapro about a year now. 30 mg. It seems to be losing its effect it once had. It still works just I am back to having social anxiety. What is a good addition? I heard Buspar may work well. Suggestions to talk to my Dr. about?

A: 30 mg. seems kind kind of a big dose. I am on 20 mg. Along with the Lexapro I take a small dose of Klonopin, and it helps immensely. Just half of a .05 mg.tablet works wonders for me.

Blessings to you, my dear.

Q: How much is the copay for lexapro usually?
My doctor just wrote me a scrip for lexapro and was wondering how much the copay is (I probably should have asked them before they wrote it). I’m insured by Blue Cross Blue Shield.

A: If this is a brand new medication for you you may want to ask your MD if there is any reason why you can’t take Fluoxetine (generic Prozac) instead as it is available for $4 at many pharmacies (WalMart, Target, etc…). Much easier to afford if you are paying out of pocket and a very reliable antidepressant med.

Q: How long should it take for lexapro to start working?
I was put on lexapro and trazodone yesterday for anxiety and depression. I took my first pill today. How long will it take for it to start working on me?

A: Usually it takes 6 weeks to become fully effective. You might start to notice something after a week or two, but no guarantees. My husband who has a very sensitive system noticed a positive effect from his very first dose of Paxil, but that is very rare!

Wishing you well!

Q: What are the side effects of lexapro and kalma?
My partner currently takes lexapro and even if he has one beer it makes his arms numb. Is this normal? or is it the panic attack symptoms. Also how bad are the affects of coming off the kalma and what steps should be taken to reduce the panic attacks once stopped? THANKS:)

A: Hi,
There is this guide by anxiety expert Joe Barry , he has taught thousands of people to be panic free without any medication using a revolutionary new technique, http://www.panicaway.co.nr , its really a great guide , it should help you get rid of panic attacks forever in a few days

Hope this helps you and wish you the best of health

Q: How long does it take for lexapro to kick in?
I just got put on 20 mg of lexapro. I was on it before about a year ago but i dont remember, how long does it take to kick in??
I am starting to feel jittery

A: I would say about 2-3 weeks , it takes your body some time to get used to it .

Q: Has anyone switched from Lexapro to Citalopram?
From what I have been reading, most people seem to go from citalopram to lexapro. I am the other way around. Mostly because of financial reasons since I lost my health insurance. I’m worried that I will get the withdrawal symptoms from going off lexapro as well as the side effects for starting a new drug. Any thoughts or facts would be great. Thanks so much.

A: You only get side effects with Citalopram for the first 5 – 7 days or at least i did anyway and i’m fine now. You should be okay, just hang in there. Maybe you could ask your doctor if there is anyway to reduce the withdrawl symptoms from coming off Lexapro too.

Q: How long did it take for the Lexapro to start working?
I have been taking a half a pill (5mg) for anxiety for the past five days and plan to take a whole pill after the fifth day. After the fifth day taking the pill, I don’t feel that the Lexapro has kicked in yet.

A: About 7 days but it can take up to 3 weeks. I have been on it for approx 4 months, still hasn’t helped. Do not stop taking it cold turkey, the withdrawal is terrible.

Q: When a physician writes a prescription for Lexapro how many refills does the law allow?
How many refills can a doctor write in a legal prescription of the medication Lexapro?
I don’t mean that I can’t read a label. =) I mean according to the FDA and/or federal, state, and local government law how many refills is a doctor allowed to write on their prescription pad for the medication I mentioned?

A: Lexapro is a non-controlled medication, and thus its regulation falls to the states. In most states, there are no max number of refills in the year the prescription is legal.

Q: What will happen if I stop taking Lexapro for a few days and then start taking it again?
I started Lexapro recently, which states that it can take 4-6 weeks to take effect. My question is if I stop taking this medication for a few days to get it out of my system but I begin taking it again in a week or two, will it once again take 4-6 weeks for me to feel the effects and for it to work properly again? When I first started it took 3 weeks for me to feel it working.

A: Do a Google search for “SSRI withdrawal” or “SSRI discontinuation” or just read the link below.
Lexapro is not a medication that you can really just stop taking. It must be slowly discontinue over a period of several weeks to a few months.

Q: Has anybody noticed the sexual side effect of Lexapro?
I’ve noticed that when I’ve started taking Lexapro again after a short time off, my sex drive spikes and I don’t suffer from premature ejaculation. The effect dies after about a week.

Has anybody else seen this?

A: yes i useda take lexapro and it was pretty bad the effect dint wear off either
