lexapro side effects

A: Are you saying that you were suicidal before, and you still are on the medication? If you haven’t been taking it long, it may not have started working yet. It takes 6-8 weeks for reuptake to really kick in. If you have been taking it longer than that or it’s a new thing, I would definitely talk to your doctor or psychologist. If these thoughts are really serious, make sure you talk to someone about them. My main side effects with Lexapro were lots of headaches, and some serious withdrawals when I accidentally when off of it.

Q: How long do Lexapro Side effects last?
I was taking Lexapro for around 7-8 years, and I weaned off of it to see how I was without it. its been around 4 months off of it and I am starting it again. Just wondering how long can I expect the side effects to last? I am getting very mild flu like symptoms right now/lost of appetite. Anyone else ever stop taking it then have to start again? how did it go? Thanks

A: i dont have personal experience but i had friends that took it for even a short amount of time and the side effects (like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, mood swings, fatigue), lasted for 2 weeks +. the only way to know for sure though is to talk to your dr. maybe a better idea would be to go off of it slowly, rather than completely go cold turkey.

Q: What have been some Lexapro side effects?
I have only been on it for 5 days and have had numerous different side effects and just curious what others have had and how long they lasted, such as the dizziness and upset stomach? thanks!

A: I’ve been on lexapro for a month now. At first I had an upset stomach and it wore off but I’ve always had trouble getting to sleep since I’ve been on it but other than that it’s helped me soo much with my anxiety.

Q: Can lexapro cause side effects on and off as long as you take it?
I’ve been on “the ‘pro” for about 6 months now. I can’t say enough about what it’s done for my anxiety… but the physical side effects are annoying. Just when I think I’m past it, one will come back. Throughout the 6 months I’ve experienced forearm pain, chest tighness, blurred vision, leg pain, loss of appetite and sore knuckles (feel like I want to crack them all the time). I never had any of this before the Lexapro, but most people say the side effects go away after the first few weeks. Should I worry?

A: Are you taking any other medications?

The reason I ask, is that one of my daughters has trouble with mostly all medications–except Lexapro. She takes it every morning, and has had no side-effects whatsoever. However, when she was also taking Seroquel at night–she had a very bad reaction to that–and she woke up extremely groggy–almost like a drunk effect.

If you are only taking Lexapro, you absolutely should get in touch with your doctor–as side-effects should never last for that length of time. You may need your medication changed–or the doseage lowered. You should not have gone on for six full months like this.

Everyone is unique–and everyone has his/her own reactions to various medications. It’s really important that you call your doctor.

Q: Does anyone have experience with Lexapro side effects?
I have been taking Lexapro for almost a year. I initially gained weight which wasn’t unexpected but I can’t seem to lose it even after this amount of time. Also, I am noticing alot of short term memory problems and word finding problems. Has anyone experienced similar problems?

A: Yep. Note the law suits. Check your blood sugar. Change your med and then eat balanced and the weight will go. It is messing with your metabolism/hormones/blood sugar, causing the symptoms you are having. Sorry. Check out the Merk Manual online. My aunt gained 25 pounds by the time she was done and her doc kept saying it wasn’t the drug until his other patients started doing the same thing. He took her off and her weight is back to normal with some effort. There are other effective meds out there. If you get sick of the side effects of your meds, note that research proves behavioral/cognitive therapy works excellent and the results are permanent, by the way. I wish you all the best. Sorry about the bio-chemical issues. Make sure you eat balanced food and lay off the sugar to get regulated in the meantime. Best of luck and life to you.

Q: How to counteract Lexapro sexaul side effects?
I am taking Lexapro. But i am not that happy with lack of sex drive and anorgasmia side effect. Has someone been through the same? How can this side effect be overcome withouth stopping taking lexapro?

A: My husband is taking Lexapro as well and he is having the same problems as you are so you are not alone he felt better after i read this to him. The only way that we get past it is pretty much i do alot of kissing, touching in all the right spots. If you know what i mean i am not trying to be sick or anything but that is how we get over it. Hope you can get past it GOOD LUCK!!!

Q: What are the common side effects of Lexapro?
I have been taking Lexapro for about 4-5 weeks now, and I know that there are side effects that come with it. But I would like to know what the common ones are. I’ve been experiencing really vivid dreams, dizziness and fatigue. I also would like to know if these last. Thanks for the help.

A: Hi, A lot of what you’re experiencing are called “break-in” side effects. When I started taking Lexapro, I also had very vivid and bizarre dreams – fortunately they went away with time. That should also hold true of the dizziness.

The drowsiness and fatigue depend a lot on when you take the Lexapro. I found (by experimenting) that the best time for me to take my Lexapro is with dinner. I sleep a lot better, and I’m more awake the next day.

If the drowsiness and fatigue continue, you might think about asking your doctor if you could add Wellbutrin SR to your meds. I take it – in the morning – and it helps get me going. And, you might also be able to lower your Lexapro dose, too – which also helps.

Q: How long until I start to experience side effects of Lexapro, if any?
I just got prescribed Lexapro and was wondering how long it would take for the side effects to start (that is, if I’m going to have any. I know some people don’t…).

Thanks.

A: I never had any problems with it. Celexa is cheaper and is the first version of lexapro.

Q: When do the headache and tiredness side effects of Lexapro go away?
I was recently put on Lexapro 10mg. for anxiety about 3 weeks ago and although it has helped my anxiety, I feel so tired during the day and yawn constantly and still get the headaches. When do the full effects kick in and the side effects usually subside?

A: i wish i knew

Q: Do lexapro sexual side effects go away after a Month use, and does wellbutrin work to counteract the effects.?
Why do these anti deppressants cause sexual side effects.
Do they lower testoterone levels,and how much does it take to lower testoterone levels. Whats the best thing you can use to couteract the sexaul side effects.

A: I’ve been affected by lexapro in that way but as a female. Even after being on the medication for two years now. Wellbutrin gave me seizures (which I was already at risk for)…so I couldn’t take that…

but there are medications now that you can take to reverse the side effects, just talk to your doc. I just personally don’t want to be on any more medications than I already am on…

just tell your doc whats up.
they’ll know how to help

Q: I took Lexapro 10mg only for one week how long before the sexual side effects go away?
switched to wellbutrin after one week of Lexapro because of sexual and other side effects. would like to know how long the sexual side effects of lexapro will last? when will my sex drive and orgasms come back? thanks for your help.

A: One common problem that happens is this. I have been there and done that. You have to figure out what it is first that is destroying your sex drive. If your on medication like birth control or anti-depressants that is something to think about and do research on. Other then that it could just be stress, maybe the kids, really anything that makes your life stressful can do this and lower the libido.

One thing I tried that seemed to work while I was doing it was exercising. I just felt sexier doing it which kind of boosted my libido. However it wasn’t the best solution for me. My friend told me about these herbal enhancers that are made from natural herbs and don’t cause any side effects besides having wild sex. She said it’s the female version of viagra. I had to find out.

I would always have a weak orgasm too (if I had one at all), which after trying this sex enhancer, it boosted them tremendously. I don’t get multiple orgasms but I’ve had plenty since being on these herbs. It’s seriously like the best vibrator ride you’ve ever experienced. These things make me horny all the time, some days I don’t even take them because the urge is just too strong.

Don’t try out single herbs because they don’t do it like the blend of herbs these scientists and researchers pick out. I’ve tried a couple of them by itself and they did crap. The stuff that I’m on is called Hersolution, at the time I saved money on it at herenhancement.com . Make sure you get the 3 month supply that way you fall under the guarantee/return policy if the herbs don’t work for you, you can return them with no questions ask. I bet they will work though and you won’t have any problems. Also if your on medication of any sort, check out the gel because if your like me, you wouldn’t want to swallow any thing that might react with the medications your already on.

Well have a good day and hopefully you solved your problem.

Q: what are the worst side effects of lexapro?
can lexapro give you permanent side effeccts? and what are the worst side effects of it?

A: Take your pick. http://www.drugs.com/lexapro.html says:

“Lexapro side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: skin rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

* very stiff (rigid) muscles, high fever, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, overactive reflexes;
* nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, feeling unsteady, loss of coordination; or
* headache, trouble concentrating, memory problems, weakness, confusion, hallucinations, fainting, seizure, shallow breathing or breathing that stops.

Less serious Lexapro side effects may include:

* drowsiness, dizziness;
* sleep problems (insomnia);
* mild nausea, gas, heartburn, upset stomach, constipation;
* weight changes;
* decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm; or
* dry mouth, yawning, ringing in your ears.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.”

Ultimately, some side effects stick around longer than others when it comes to drugs, but any and all of these can occur. I’d also like to point out the second paragraph that says “more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself”… so you might get better, you might get worse, or you might get dead.
Good luck and I hope I helped!

Q: Lexapro – side effects and starting dosage ?
I am curious from ppl who have used it , what negative side effects you had and what dosage you would recommend to start on (and if you worked up to a higher one).
My doc had started me on 20mg and it _seemed_ like it made me have some heart palpitations so I quit taking it after 3 days.. but I was already getting some of these missed beats because of my anxiety/panic condition, which is the main problem, not depression.

So Im curious if it likely did or did not effect my heartbeat and if maybe I could try it again at a smaller dosage initially. Just after other ppls experiences with it really I guess.
Thanks!

A: The normal prescribed dose is 10mg once a day. It gave me a headache and insomnia. Sounds like it’s giving you anxiety issues. Tell him to put you on Effexor XR.

Q: are the side effects of lexapro suppost to go away after the body gets used to it?
i have started 5 mg of lexapro two weeks ago, i have days where i have massive headaches and stomache aches and general weakness and fatigue. mouth kinda dry also. my anxiety and depression arnt as bad but still there and i know i have to give the med about a month. anyone else experience these side effects when first taking the medication?

A: Yes.

Drink more water. That should help quite a bit.

5mg is a low dose. If you are seeing some improvement, I would stick with the Lexapro and let the Doc increase the dosage.

BTW — Lexapro tends to have the fewest side effects of any of the SSRIs. So, I’d give this one a good solid try before moving on to something else.

Added: I just read Crystal’s response. Please, read about the med from a reliable source like WebMD and remember….. well, I’d rather make that comment off the board. Send me a message if you want to hear it!

Q: If someone took paxil for 5 years 20 mg and only had a little weigh and minor side effects ,will lexapro be ok?
Does lexapro wok better than paxil.
Is there less sexual side effects with Lexopro.
I was on Paxil and it worked wonders for mood, just wondering if lexapro 10mg will do the same.

A: I know the miracle solution. It isn’t drugs or therapy. It is yourself. When I was born, much like yourself, I was born to be self sufficient so long as I drink and eat. Of course in a natural world there is only water, meat, fruits and vegetables. Seeing as how that isn’t the case I suggest that you ween yourself off of those hard drugs, get sober and only drink water and eat fruits, veggies and things of that sort. Humans become addicted to these drugs and they want to believe that they cannot be stable or happy without them when in reality they are a prison for your mind and life. You might feel happy but so do cocaine addicts when they get there fix. Good luck.
