Q: Can depression/anxiety show itself in physical symptoms subconsciously?
Is it normal for people with depression or anxiety to not know whether or not they are experiencing a physical sickness or are just anxious/depressed? For me it feels like from the moment I wake up everyday I don’t feel well, especially in my stomach, and it seems like it is the physical symptoms that are causing me to be depressed and not depression to be causing physical symptoms… Does anyone know?

A: depression is most definitely reflected in our physical body, nausea, aches and pains etc are common complaints, and usually what drives a person to a doctor, who then diagnoses depression and refers them to a mental health therapist of psychiatrist for appropriate treatment.

Q: what are the main symptoms of depression?
does anyone know what the main symptoms are? also, could i be on medicine and still be depressed? which antidepressants are best for a combo of depression/anxiety/agitation??

A: anxiety and depression eventually go hand in hand… u get one cause of the other… so my psych tells me. i have been on sooooooo many meds… it’s an individual diagnoses that will tell u what u need to be on.

i guess i will give u my symptoms… constant headaches, dizziness, i’m sooo tired/yet i can’t sleep, chest pains, suicidal thoughts, self harm, i have to repeatedly do things until it feels right, lack of motivation, lack of sex drive… i’m depressing myself.. that will do.

I’ve suffered depression at random occurrences. Once during the 2001-2002, second in 2003-2004 and currently 2008. Due to depression I was left with being shyness, and being scared of things to come at me at life. I was even scared to tell people whom I loved what was going on with me. Plus, the start of my depression was the start adolescence. I’m slowly recovering, but I still think negatively, searching for something but I don’t know what. What has cause me to still have these reoccurring symptoms?

Q: What were your depression/anxiety symptoms? How are you curing them or how did you cure them?
Thank you very much for your time

A: I have anxiety.
I get stressed over little things. I’m 14 btw, My mom will say, ‘Go upstairs and make your bed, please’ and my brain goes ‘NO NO NO NO NO!!!’. I get stressed. I used to self harm minorly when I felt anxious. I gave that up. When I’m trying to concentrate and it’s noisy or there are distractions it’s hard to sit still. I almost developed an eating disorder and I have minor OCD and obsessive thinking patterns.
I take a few deep breaths. Either I pretend I’m smoking, but use a pen (I don’t smoke btw) or I breathe in while counting to four, hold it for a second and breathe out while counting to four. I find doing work with my hands calms me down. I knit or plait my hair. But I could be handling it better, and I hope that in the future I’ll be able to have more control on my anxiety. I’m not on meds.

Three Weeks ago I was put on 50,000mg of vitamin D weekly because my D level was extreme. I was so depressed that I couldn’t get up. I also started taking cod liver oil (fish oil). It is miraculous. My depression is so much better. Have you had your D level checked?

A: YES, about 9 months ago my doctor did some blood work on me and found my vitamin D was hardly traceable. For a year or os i was having a hard time digesting food. WOW, what a difference,There is a lot of help on Yahoo health,go check it out .I did and learned a lot about vitamin D

Q: I have all the symptoms of depression but I don’t know how to tell my mom. How do I tell her?
I have almost all the symptoms of depression but I don’t know how to tell my mom. sometimes im happy other times im mad or sad. I don’t know if it depression or bipolar. I want to ask my mom but im scared that if i do she won’t love me anymore. Or she might not want to talk about it. how do i tell her? should i tell her or should i keep it to myself?

A: Hun, please don’t tell yourself that your mom won’t love you if she knows this. Your mother will always love you no matter what…believe in that too. The situation will only get worse if u keep it inside…it’ll just eat up from the inside out. It’s never too late to get help. I know it’s cliche, but try to talk to your mom about this “friend” who is having problems and that she came to you because she didn’t know how to tell her mother… then tell her how your “friend” feels the mother’s reaction may be. Depending on her reaction, you should either just say straight up to her that you’re the friend or be yourself and just tell her what’s pounding your heart. If you still don’t feel okay with talking to your mom, go to a school counselor, a close friend, or someone you feel comfortable around. And you’re not alone. God loves you, and I believe it with all my heart. You’ll be in my prayers.

Q: Best antidepressant for Anxiety/Depression symptoms without sexual dysfunction?
Currently Taking Prozac, and have very little desire. Tried adding Wellbutrin and could not tolerate it. I’m a male.
I know Wellbutrin is a popular add-on, but I really felt un-nerved and could not tolerate the feeling for more than a few days. This was on only the 150 xl dose

A: I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I’ve been taking that for over two years, and it’s working very well for me.

The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active – and wanting to do things – while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can’t tell I’m taking any medication at all.

I found (before the Wellbutrin) I had the desire… the performance was just not as good. Wish you would’ve said was your problem with the Wellbutrin, could it have been too high of a dose?

Q: Does acupuncture cure depression and psychotic symptoms?
Does acupuncture cure depression and psychotic symptoms?

A: no

Q: If someone was diagnosed with major depression ,do 5 of the 9 symptoms need to be present every day to still?
have that disorder instead of minor depression? What if someone had it for several years? Couldn’t a few days go by with fewer symptoms present?

A: I was always told that it was considered major depression if the symptoms persist “more often than not” over the course of the specified time frame (in this case, two weeks). In other words, the symptoms would not need to be present every day. However, that is, to some extent, up to the discretion of the practitioner too.

Q: Does anyone have endometriosis? If so, can you tell me if depression can be one of the symptoms?
I feel depressed all of the time. I am not sure if it’s depression or it’s because of the endometriosis. My doctor didn’t give me much detail. He told me to go home and look on the computer for the symptoms and everything else.

A: That was a CRAP answer from your doc!! OMG I never heard of a doc referring people to the net, instead of answering your questions.

First, endometriosis is a very painful condition.. and guess what, fighting, dealing and trying to live your life in pain CAUSES some depression anyway. IT HURTS!

Next you could also be depressed before the endometriosis thing and it could have nothing to do with it.

Either way, I would tell your doc point blank..I expected the answer from you, which is why I asked.. I need to have something done about my depression and you told me to go home and look it up on the net. I paid (whether insurance did or not) to have this time and have you answer my questions, so I expect you to answe any questions I have in the future or, I’ll find another doctor.

Yeah that’s harsh….but hun, do that for the FUTURE women he does that crap to. It didn’t feel very good to you and it won’t feel any better to them either. I’m sorry and /comf

Q: How long does it take for symptoms of postpartum depression to present themselves after birth?
I had a very crazy blue period where I wept constantly in the 7th month of my pregnancy. Now I’ve had the baby and have been at home for nine days – I’ve had sporadic moments of anxiety but nothing that resembles the depression I went through in my pregnancy…just wondered if I am in the clear or if post-partum may still present itself…? Any thoughts from others who have gone through it?

A: I had problems with postpartum depression when my daughter was a baby and I didn’t really realize that it was pp and not baby blues until she was about 3 months old. So I think it was there all the time with me and I just didn’t realize for a while. I think it can strike at any time. It is good that you are aware that it could be a problem. I would give it some time while you adjust to the new little person in your life, but if you don’t start feeling like yourself in the next couple weeks talk to your OB. Please take good care of yourself and enjoy your little angel.

Q: I am interested in what some of the symptoms of depression are?
And would loosing a persons livelihood cause it? If so, how do doctors treat it and what are the side effects if Medication is used?

A: no job would sure cause it.
doctor’s have some really cool drugs to help
get rid of it
